Description
The Old Vicarage is a vicarage that has been converted into a house, built in 1760 with alterations and additions made in 1872-3 by James Fowler of Louth. The building is constructed of brick, featuring a front in Flemish bond, and has a pantile roof. The original part of the house has a two-room central entrance hall plan with an extension at the rear. It is two storeys high and has five first floor windows.
The entrance features an early 19th century doorcase with reeded pilasters and a frieze, along with consoles adorned with floral ornament that support a cornice and hood. The original six-fielded-panel door is accompanied by an overlight with geometric glazing in the reveal. There is a single blocked segmental-arched window, which now has recessed panels, and a 19th century French window with margin lights on either side. A three-course brick band runs along the first floor, which has 16-pane sash windows in flush wooden architraves beneath segmental arches.
The eaves cornice is stepped and cogged, and the gables are brick-coped and tumbled with end stacks. Each gable end features two segmental-arched blind panels on each floor. The interior has been largely altered in the 19th century, but paper found behind the original door architrave is inscribed with the year 1760.
