Description
The Gate Lodge at Weelsby Hall is a gate lodge built in 1890 by L Maples for George Frederick Sleight, who later became a baronet and was a prominent figure in Grimsby's fishing industry. The lodge is constructed of red brick in English bond with stone dressings and has a rendered rear. It features a Welsh slate roof and is T-shaped in plan, consisting of three rooms with an entrance at the rear and small 20th-century infill additions at the rear angles.
The exterior is single-storey with three bays on the main north front, where the central bay projects forward. It has a central brick canted bay window with one-over-one plate-glass sashes set in a pilastered surround. The side bays also have similar sashes beneath gablets. A continuous band at lintel level supports shaped brackets for the overhanging eaves, which have a moulded eaves board. The roof is hipped, and there is a central stack with stone bands and a corniced cap. The right return features a pair of sashes in reveals with stone sills and lintels, along with a single similar sash at the centre rear. The interior has not been inspected.
