Description

Stella Maris is a house built around 1870 for the Grant-Thorold Estate, featuring late 20th-century alterations and additions. The structure is made of red brick, which is rendered and whitewashed except for the gable coping and stacks, and it has a pantile roof. The design reflects a 17th-century Dutch style. The house has a two-room layout with a central entrance hall and later extensions on each side and at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high with two windows, while the wings are single-storey with one window each. There is a plinth at the base. The central open porch features a four-centred arch beneath a pointed-arch gable, which has a moulded brick cornice and coping. The windows are modern imitation six-over-six sashes set in the original openings with sills. The shaped gables have rendered kneelers and moulded brick cornices and coping. The end stacks are corniced with twin octagonal shafts, and the wings have pairs of similar windows, with the left wing featuring a diamond-shafted stack.

The interior has not been inspected. Stella Maris is part of a series of houses in Old Clee that were built for Alexander Grant-Thorold of Weelsby Old Hall, designed to match the style of the nearby Clee Hall Farmhouse on Clee Road.
