Description
This is a threshing barn located approximately 30 metres west of Gowdall Broach Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The barn is constructed of brick and features a roof made of pantiles and Yorkshire slate. It has a rectangular shape and includes a pair of opposed entrances, forming the west side of a fold-yard. The barn is two storeys high and consists of ten bays.
On the east side, which faces the yard, there are board doors beneath segmental stretcher arches at the third and eighth bays. The ground floor has a single row of breather slits, while the upper floor has a double row of breather slits and a single pitching hatch at the seventh bay, which has a board door and lintel at eaves level. The pitched roof has two courses of slates that create projecting eaves, and the stone-coped gables are adorned with shaped kneelers.
The west side features a pair of similar segmental-headed doors, breather slits, and two hatches on the ground floor, along with a door, three hatches, and additional breather slits above. The south gable has a blocked opening, a diamond-shaped breather, and an owl-hole.
