Description
The Magistrates Courts, built between 1857 and 1859 by John Weightman, is a notable structure made of ashlar stone set on a granite plinth. It stands three stories tall and features thirteen bays, including a recessed canted corner and three bays facing Hatton Garden. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a sill band and a flat band above. There is a central carriage entry with a segmental arch, flanked by doorways and windows that have segmental heads. The facade is organized in a pattern of 3:3:1:3:3 bays, with rusticated giant pilasters that support an entablature above the first floor. The building has four-pane sash windows throughout. The top floor features panelled pilasters, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with a central pediment and six stacks with cornices.
