Description
The gate piers, gates, and retaining wall to the churchyard of the former Church of St Peter were built in 1825 and have been altered since. The retaining wall surrounds the west and south sides of the churchyard, as well as a short section of the east side, and is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with a ridged coping that once supported railings. Located near the west end of the south side, the gateway features a pair of tall octagonal piers topped with prominent cornices and embattled caps. The entrance is completed with a pair of ramped wrought-iron gates that include dog-bars, scrolled top bands, and spear-headed railings. This structure is included for its group value.
