Description
Nos. 10 and 11 Chaddock Street are a pair of small town houses built around 1830, with some alterations. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with No. 10 painted cream, and feature sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan, is single-fronted, and includes separate back extensions along with a shared central through-lobby.
The houses are two storeys high with cellars and have a five-window range, characterized by a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice. The doorways are located up four steps to the left and three steps to the right, each with nosings. They feature round-headed architraves with set-in Tuscan quarter-columns, plain lintels, and semicircular fanlights with convex moulded surrounds, although the doors and fanlights have been altered. The central lobby doorway has a wedge lintel and a board door, which has added external battens.
Each house contains one window at ground floor and two above, with sashed windows that lack glazing bars, except for the first-floor windows of No. 11, which have been altered. There is a blind window in the centre of the first floor, aligned with the chimney stack, and all windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. The cellar windows also feature wedge lintels and gratings. A large linear multiple-flue chimney stack is located at the junction of the two houses. The rear and interiors of the houses were not inspected. This pair forms part of an almost complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class houses on this street.
