Pair of small town houses. c.1835, altered.Red brick in Flemish bond (tuck-pointed at No.53), with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Double-depth halls-adjoining plan (no through-lobby), each house single-fronted, with coupled back extensions. Two storeys over cellars, 2+2 bays; with a 1st floor sill-band, plain frieze and moulded gutter cornice. The doorways, coupled in the centre, have round-headed architraves with set-in Tuscan quarter columns, plain lintels, and semicircular fanlights with convex moulded surrounds, panelled door at No.54 (altered at No.53). Each house has one window at ground floor and 2 above, those at No.54 sashed without glazing bars (altered glazing at No.53), all with raised sills and wedge lintels; cellar windows with rectangular lintels, protected by gratings. Gable chimneys. Rear and INTERIOR not inspected. The item is part of a formerly complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class town houses in this street.
