Description
Nos. 60, 61, and 62 Frenchwood Street are a row of three small townhouses built around 1830-1835, with alterations and ongoing renovation at No. 61. They are constructed of red brick in a 5+1 English garden wall bond, with No. 60 having been rebuilt and No. 62 painted red. The houses feature sandstone dressings and a slate roof, with a double-depth plan. Each house is single-fronted with back extensions and has through-lobbies located centrally between Nos. 60 and 61 and to the right at No. 62.
The buildings are two storeys high over cellars, each consisting of two bays, and have a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice. The doorways are positioned to the left at No. 60 (accessed by two steps) and are coupled at Nos. 61 and 62 (accessed by one step). These doorways have round-headed architraves with set-in Tuscan quarter columns, plain lintels, and semicircular fanlights with hollow-moulded surrounds. The lobby doorways feature plain lintels and board doors. Each house has one window on the ground floor and two above, all sashed without glazing bars except for the ground floor of No. 62, with raised sills and wedge lintels. The cellar windows are protected by grating. The houses have ridge chimneys. The rear and interior of the buildings were not inspected. This row is part of a formerly complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class townhouses on this street.
