Description
The Gillow Mausoleum, located north of the Church of St. Thomas and St. Elizabeth, was likely built around 1830, with the first burial occurring in 1836. This mausoleum is designed in an Egyptian style and constructed from sandstone ashlar. It has a rectangular plan with battered walls, while the central part of each wall is vertical, creating buttresses at the corners. The structure features a coved cornice with roll moulding beneath it and a stepped blocking course on the east and west sides, which supports a stone cross. The east and west walls each have doors with architraves, although the western door is blocked by a slate slab. On the south side, there are four recessed Egyptian columns, characterized by bud bases, reeded bands, fluting, and bell capitals adorned with papyrus decoration.
