Description
The Octagonal Pavilion, located approximately 130 meters southeast of St Annes Pier, is a promenade pavilion likely built between 1890 and 1914. It features a small octagonal design made of cast iron and glass, with a painted metal-clad roof in black, red, and gold. The structure is set on a sandstone ashlar plinth and is supported by slender decorated cast-iron columns. The lower half of the pavilion has screen walls made of ornamented cast-iron panels, while the upper part contains windows with four tall triangular-headed panes, except for the entrance on the southeast side. The pavilion also includes an open-work frieze, scrolled brackets supporting the projected eaves, and a dramatically swept roof topped with a wrought-iron finial. It is part of a group of related promenade structures.
