Description
Nos 18, 20, and 22 Portland Place is a terrace of houses built in the early 19th century, before 1840. The buildings are constructed from rubble, with the front coursed, and feature a stone slab roof. They rise three storeys and present a regular seven-window range. The windows have wedge lintels, except for the ground floor windows of Nos 18 and 20, and all windows are fitted with 2-pane horned sashes. The doorways are round-headed with moulded surrounds, although some detail has been lost; they have panelled doors with fanlights, and two of the doors feature fancy glazing bars. The gutter box likely replaces the original cornice. The buildings have brick ridge stacks, except for No 22, which has a stone stack. No 22 is connected to the gateway of Stalybridge Corn Mill. The rear elevation includes round-headed stair windows.
