Description

The Moravian Sunday School, built in 1906 by architect C.T. Taylor, is a single-storey building located on Main Street in Oldham. It features a striking Baroque facade with three bays, characterized by a central entrance flanked by advanced outer towers. The entrance is set within a lean-to porch, which is adorned with banded Ionic pilasters on either side of the doorway and oval windows, all highlighted by white terracotta above a brick plinth.

Above the entrance, there is a moulded terracotta frieze that includes an inscription and the date, topped by a cornice. The upper storey features a large lunette window with a terracotta architrave, voussoirs, and cornice, all set in red brick. The angle towers are also constructed of banded brick and terracotta, showcasing square windows with stressed moulded architraves on the ground floor, and the terracotta band is further accentuated with rusticated bands.

Central pilasters in brick are topped with a terracotta cornice that features a central cartouche, and there is a moulded parapet that is scooped out in the center. The right side of the building has a return elevation with a mix of segmental and tall round-arched windows set in gabled dormers.
