Description
The memorial cross, dating from around 1907, is located in St Peter's Square, Manchester. It marks the position of the former Church of St Peter, which was demolished in 1907. The cross is made of Portland stone and is designed in the Gothic style. It features a base of four hexagonal steps leading up to a hexagonal pedestal with a swept top, which is decorated with quatrefoils and brattishing. The shaft consists of slender clustered columns, each displaying an angel holding a shield halfway up its sides, and it is topped with a large Gothic cross. The memorial cross forms a group with the Cenotaph War Memorial nearby.
