Description
No. 9 St John Street is a small town house, now used as an office, dating from around 1760. It features a brown brick façade in Flemish bond and has a grey slate roof. The building is three storeys high and consists of one bay facing the street, with the entrance located on the left side.
On the ground floor, there is a replaced small-pane window. The first and second floors each have a flush 12-pane sash window, with painted stone sills and cambered brick heads, topped by a cornice. The left side of the building has an approximately central round-arched doorway that includes a 6-panel door, a blank fan, an architrave, and a carved keystone. This side also features two 12-pane sash windows. The first floor has two flush sashes, which have been altered to 4-pane windows. The second floor retains two metal windows in their original openings.
The rear of the building has a concealed ground floor, an 8-pane fixed light on the first floor, and a flush 12-pane sash on the second floor. The right side of the house is unpierced and has been rebuilt. The interior was not inspected, and the building was vacant at the time of the survey in April 1992.
