Description

This is a mid-18th century town house, likely incorporating an earlier structure. The front is built of Flemish bond brown brick with a grey slate roof running parallel to the street. The building is three storeys high and five bays wide, with a loft in the roof. A flush sandstone plinth is present, although much of the east side has been replaced with brick. A stone step leads to a panelled front door, which has a three-pane overlight and a heavily moulded hood supported by consoles. Almost all the windows are sashes with 12 panes, thick glazing-bars, lead apron-sills, and cambered, gauged brick arches. Two sashes are located on either side of the front door, with hinged panelled shutters. Five sashes are on the second and third storeys, irregularly spaced. A three-course floorband is present on the second storey, with a one-course band oversailing two courses on the third storey. A cast-iron rainwater pipe has an 18th-century moulded lead head. A moulded cornice sits beneath a rebuilt parapet. The rear of the building features a round-arched stair window, a pair of two-light windows in a loft dormer, and a large chimney on each side of the rear roof slope. The interior has not been inspected.
