Description

This building is a warehouse located to the north-west of Bolland's Court, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with some walling likely from the late medieval period, which is part of the former City Common Hall. It is constructed from sandstone and brown brick, topped with a grey slate roof that runs along a north-south ridge.

The warehouse stands four storeys tall and features five windows. The west plinth, or adjoining wall, is approximately 1.25 meters high and projects about 0.40 meters, made of coursed red sandstone. This plinth extends northward in poorer condition as the flush plinth of the yard wall and is believed to be the only remaining part of the former Common Hall. The rest of the warehouse is built in irregular bond brick.

On the west side, there are two loading openings; one includes framed and boarded double doors, along with a framed and boarded pedestrian door and a window. The second storey has four windows, while the third and fourth storeys each have five windows. The north and south ends have altered openings, with the south end featuring a 20th-century external steel stair. The west side has blank first and second storeys, with altered windows on the third and fourth storeys. The original openings have segmental arches made of two header courses, except for the fourth storey, which has timber lintels.

Although the interior has not been inspected, this warehouse is considered to be the best example of a detached city-centre warehouse in Chester and is of special interest due to the remains of the Common Hall.
