Description

Number 18 Street and Numbers 18 and 20 Row is an undercroft and town house, likely rebuilt in the early 19th century. It was originally designed as an undercroft shop, Row shop, and accommodation. The building features brown brick in Flemish bond at the front, topped with a hipped grey slate roof that has a ridge at a right angle to the front. It has four storeys, including the undercroft and Row.

The street frontage has a modern shopfront, and the end piers, likely made of painted stone, extend through the undercroft and Row storeys. There are nine altered sandstone steps leading to the Row walk. The Row is bordered by a plain cast-iron railing and features a central cast-iron Doric column. The stallboard, which is 1.95 meters deep from front to back, includes a showcase on the east side and has a concrete-paved Row walk. The shopfront appears to be a late 20th-century addition in an Edwardian style. Inside, the stallboard and Row walk have a plaster ceiling, and there is a plain Row-top bressumer with a cornice.

On the third and fourth storeys, there are two recessed sash windows each, with 12 panes on the third storey and nine panes on the fourth storey. These windows have painted stone sills and wedge lintels. The building shares a lead rainwater head with Number 18 Row, and there is a cornice and parapet course made of painted stone. The interior surfaces of the undercroft and Row storeys are covered, and no features of special interest are visible in the third and fourth storeys.
