Shelter on Queen's Promenade, Blackpool

The shelter on Queen's Promenade in Blackpool was built in 1904 and relocated between 1924 and 1930. It was created by the Lion Foundry Company of Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow.

This structure has a rectangular plan and features slim cast-iron columns at the corners and centers of the long sides, most of which bear the Lion Foundry marks. The columns are linked by screens at each end and have cruciform central screens. The round columns are topped with scroll capitals and each supports the roof beams with three sweeping foliate brackets. The roof is double-swept and emphatically ribbed, featuring a prominent ridge crest. Ogee gutters above the eaves cornice discharge rainwater via the foot of the corner columns. The screens include tongue-and-groove lower panels and upper glazing panels that are now unglazed and partially boarded in plywood.
