Description
This building is a former headmaster's house for the National School, constructed in 1858 by A.M. Dunn. It is made of squared stone with tooled dressings and has a blue slate roof featuring a crest of yellow moulded tiles. The upper parts of the stacks have been rebuilt in brick. The house is two storeys tall and has three bays. It features a chamfered plinth and a left-of-centre diagonal-boarded door, along with four-pane sash windows, all set in chamfered surrounds with segmental-pointed heads. The flanking stacks project from the returns, and the roof is hipped. There is a rear wing that has a similar roof and stack.
The National School was designed to accommodate 250 children, and while there are other buildings including an attached block to the north-west, these have been altered and are not of special interest. This house is included for its group value with St. Mary's Church nearby.
