Description
The Davison tombstone, located approximately 5 meters south of the south transept of the Church of St. Cuthbert, dates from 1780 and commemorates two members of the Davison family who died in 1780 and an unknown date. This tombstone is made of red sandstone and measures about 97 centimeters by 77 centimeters. It features a scrolled head and a hollow-chamfered border. The head is intricately carved with stylized flowers above an hourglass, flanked by wavy ribbons that are inscribed with the phrases "The last hour" and "is approaching." The epitaph is well-lettered and reads: "He that lies here was meek and mild his words was soft much like a child that non condemn'd for any sin take then those steps and follow him." The lower part of the inscription is illegible and continues below ground.
