Description
The building is a dovecote located 10 metres north of Sockburn Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick in an irregular bond and features a pantiled roof. The dovecote has a square plan and stands two storeys tall. On the west side, there is a late 20th-century garage door with a partly-blocked round-arched opening above it, which contains a double row of arched pigeon holes. A similar opening can be found beneath the eaves on the east side. The eaves have stepped courses, and the roof is pyramidal with stone ridge tiles. At the top, there is a lead-sheathed cap with a small ball finial. The dovecote is included for its group value. A late 20th-century wall linking the dovecote to the farmhouse is not of interest.
