Description

This building is a shop with an art gallery located to the north of the Town Hall entrance, constructed in 1852 by P.C. Hardwick. The gallery has been known as the Burlison Art Gallery since a bequest in 1899. It is built from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a roof made of large Welsh slates, all designed in the Tudor style. The structure consists of two storeys and attics, with three bays.

On the left side, there is a Tudor-arched entrance that leads to a covered market. To the right, there are three shop windows that have chamfered, two-centred-arched surrounds. The upper floors have stone mullioned-and-transomed windows, with a two-light window above the arched entrance and a three-light window above the other windows, both featuring relieving arches. The half-dormers contain three-light windows under gables topped with fleur-de-lis finials. The building is capped with tall, stone-coped polygonal ridge chimneys.

Inside the gallery, which is accessed from the Town Hall, the walls are covered in hessian and the ceiling is panelled with diagonal boards. There is a painted stone-hooded chimney piece with carved spandrels, and a large door features linen-fold carving along with carved spandrels and pineapple finials.
