Description

Greatham Bridge features a modern cast iron section that spans the River Arun, but to the west, there is a stone portion added in 1827 to an earlier bridge, reflecting medieval design. This stone section consists of eight low elliptical arches with cutwaters between them, followed by two higher arches that also have a cutwater between them, which rise to create a triangular recess on the bridge. The higher arches connect to the modern part of the bridge. On the east side of the modern section, there is a solid ramp. The bridge is also designated as a Scheduled Monument.
