Description

The Prince of Wales Inn, also known as Ty Newydd, is a building constructed of rubble stonework, featuring a graded slate roof with coped end gables and painted gable stacks. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. The front elevation is symmetrical, with the two left bays containing an inset doorway that has a cambered head, flanked by 20th-century stained timber paned windows, which also have cambered rubble voussoir heads. There are two windows on the upper floor of the west gable, and a stone flight of steps is located between the east gable end and an adjoining two-storey building set at right angles. The rear has various additions.

The ground floor plan has been altered due to the removal of internal walls, and there are end fireplaces. The upper floor contains the Town Hall or Court Room, which is accessed by an external flight of steps at the northeast corner. This room features five bays formed with open timber trusses that are ceiled at collar level, likely dating from the 18th century but restored. It includes some 17th-century wall panelling and wooden benches, which are partly original but mostly restored, along with a raised dais at the west end.
