Description
The Gables is a large three-storey, four-bay house built around 1860, originally serving as the lower house to Norton Manor and designed in a similar Jacobethan style. The building features rubble facings with freestone dressings and steep slate roofs adorned with bargeboards. It has chimney stacks with tall, star-shaped brick stems, and the outer bays are slightly advanced. Notable architectural details include rectangular dripmoulds, small paired casements on the top floor, and cruciform frames with small pane glazing on the lower floors. To the left end, there is a small bay, and to the left of centre, a solid porch with a triangular-headed doorway and a pitched roof.
