Description

7 Well Street, together with numbers 9-11, forms a group. Number 7 is a shop. It dates from the 18th century and is constructed of brick, now rendered with roughcast. The roof is slate, with tile cresting, although the chimney stacks are missing. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs along the top, and the corners have rusticated quoins, although those on the right-hand side were removed by the 1970s. The windows are small-pane sashes. A vehicular passage runs underneath the central window.

The front of the building has two bays, with a rectangular passage opening to the right and a 20th-century shop front on the left. The shop front features a half-glazed wooden door with a plain overlight to the right, and a two-light shop window to the left. The window is articulated by plain pilasters with capitals, supporting a moulded cornice. The upper floor has two 20-pane hornless sash windows set within raised, eared surrounds; the window on the right is lower and features a keystone. The west gable end is of brick.

At the rear, above the passage, is a tall, top-hung window to the left, and two small, plain-glazed windows to the right. Adjoining to the right is a two-storey rear wing, also rendered over brick. This wing has a six-pane sash window to each storey on the left, the upper window having a segmental brick head. To the right of this wing is a late 20th-century panelled door with three small lights above. Further to the right is another late 20th-century panelled door, which provides access to a large, modern range adjoining the building on the right (this range is not included in the listing).

The interior of the property has not been inspected.
