Description

Blairmore Hall, formerly known as the Ferry Waiting Room, is a significant structure in the marine heritage of Loch Long, located within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. This late 19th century building is a simple, single-storey rectangular design featuring round-arched openings and is central to the group of buildings at Blairmore Pier, which includes the pier and the ticket office. The development of the Blairmore coast as a marine resort was facilitated by steamer services connecting to Glasgow.

The pier opened in 1855, providing regular connections to Lochgoilhead, Kilmun, and Greenock. It is likely that Blairmore Hall was constructed during the improvements made to the pier in 1873. The hall faces east and is gable-fronted, measuring three bays wide and seven bays deep, with evenly spaced windows along the sides. The entrance is located to the right of the gable front, featuring a round-headed doorway accessed by three stone steps, while two additional round-headed windows are situated to the left. A round clock is set in a stone oculus at the gable's peak. Each side elevation has similar round-headed windows, along with large sliding doors on the west side.

Historical maps from around 1898 indicate that there was an additional building at the rear, but currently, only a de-roofed lean-to remains. Early photographs reveal that the hall once displayed a sign across the front gable and featured decorative bargeboards.

Inside, the hall consists of one large room with a plain design, featuring boarding up to dado height. The ceiling is flat, at a low collar height, and has a simple cornice.

The building is constructed of whinstone rubble with sandstone dressings, and it includes timber sash and case windows, a two-leaf timber door, and timber boarded sliding doors on the sides.
