Former rifle range, Village Hall, Main Road, Blair Atholl

This building, designed by James Macintyre Henry and built in 1907, is a two-storey, ten-bay village hall, originally the Scottish Horse Drill Hall. It is constructed in a Scots Jacobean domestic style and is an irregularly planned building. Excluded from the listing are the later rendered wings at the rear and the 1950s rifle range.

The hall is built of squared blue limestone rubble with light brown polished ashlar dressings. The north (principal) elevation features a wide, crowstepped gable in the central bay, which is advanced and includes a bowed tower with a bellcast roof. A large projecting hood shelters the central doorway, above which is a stone panel displaying the arms of the regiment. Above the doorway is a triple window, surmounted by a panel featuring the Scottish Crown and Thistle and the date 1907. Catslide dormers are present on the east side of the front elevation, while the west side has tall dormers with triangular gableheads.

The windows are timber sash and case, with a mix of 12 and 18 panes of glazing, and the roof is covered in grey slate. Corniced chimney stacks are topped with some red clay cans. Low boundary walls at the front of the site have moulded copes.

The interior, inspected in 2015, retains much of its early 20th-century decorative scheme. The building contains several large public areas including an armoury located in the east part, offices, and the drill hall itself. The main hall is situated at the centre of the building, at a right angle to the main elevation. A bowed tower houses a circular staircase with iron balusters and a timber handrail, providing access to a raised viewing balcony overlooking the hall through a triple window. At the opposite end of the hall is a raised dais. The hall is lined with timber boarding to dado height and the roof is supported on timber trusses. A first-floor room features a compartmented ceiling with small cornices.
