Description
Dated 1845, this church stands on Main Street, Braehead. It is an upwards-facing (UP) church of roughly square plan, with round-headed openings and a piended slate roof. The north front is distinguished by an advanced gabled centre, built of coursed ashlar with polished margins and a parapet. The other three elevations are of rubble construction. A tall doorway is centrally positioned on the north front, featuring splayed ingoes, a two-leaf boarded door, and a traceried fanlight. The parapet extends to the gable, where an apex bellcote containing a bell is situated. The church retains its distinctive original glazing pattern throughout, featuring small panes and Y-tracery. Two wide windows are located at the rear (south) of the church, positioned either side of the pulpit, with two-bay flanks. Inside, a curved gallery occupies the north end, supported by four cast-iron columns. A low session house or vestry is situated in the north-west corner. The church was out of ecclesiastical use by 1989.
