Description
Biggar Church was founded in 1545 by Malcolm, 3rd Lord Fleming. It was altered in 1870 by David Bryce and restored between 1934 and 1935. The church is designed in the Perpendicular style and has a cruciform plan, which includes a chancel with an apsidal east end, transepts, and a nave topped by a square tower at the crossing. The building is constructed of ashlar and rubble with a slate roof.
During the 1870 alterations, the nave windows were enlarged to feature a simple Y-traceried design set in rectangular recesses, and the porch and chapterhouse were rebuilt. A gallery was added to the west end in 1853. The south transept has a roundheaded door that is recessed and moulded, adorned with enriched bosses. The interior was refurnished in 1935, which included the removal of plaster from the internal walls. A Celtic cross is located in the porch.
