Description

The mausoleum, dated 1784, was originally a domed gazebo situated at the end of an avenue in the Carstairs House park. It now stands in pasture land. A fallen slab, believed to be a foundation stone, bears the inscription "Sibi et Suis extrui curavit cruilielmus Fullerton de carestairs AD 1784," translated as “erected by William Fullerton of Carstairs for himself and his family in 1784.” The mausoleum predates Carstairs House itself.
