Description

Bonshaw Heatherlie, located in Sunnyside, Denholm, is a house dating from around 1825, with later additions and alterations at the rear. It is a U-plan building with seven bays, two storeys, and an attic, currently converted into flats. The exterior features cream-coloured finely stugged sandstone ashlar, while the rear and wings are constructed from red sandstone rubble. Notable architectural elements include a base course, band course, first floor cill course, moulded cornice, and blocking course. The fenestration is fairly regular, with small slated gabled dormers and a segmental-headed arch leading to the central pend, which provides access to the entrances at the rear.

Additional details include external stone stairs at the rear that lead to the eastern flat, and a doorway with a plain ashlar architrave providing access to the house. The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing, with some using plate glass, all set in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered in Welsh slates, with zinc ridges and coped ashlar stacks topped with yellow clay cans.

Inside, the property showcases simple early 19th-century detailing, including predominantly four-panelled doors. The principal rooms are located on the first floor, some of which retain plain cornices.
