Description
The Bridge Over Kill Burn, located in The Glen, was built in the early to mid-19th century. It features a single arch span and is designed in a plain classical style, characterized by pilastered piers and a string course that defines the parapet. The bridge is constructed from coursed and snecked local whinstone, with ashlar band courses, coping, and caps, all held together with lime mortar.
On the southeast and northwest elevations, the main body of the bridge is divided into three pilastered sections. The central section contains a round-arch span made with rough whinstone voussoirs, while the outer sections are plain and blind, except for a string course at the base of the parapet. The bridge has curved wing walls on the northeast and southwest sides, and the coping is plain and flat, interrupted by slightly raised pyramidal caps on the pilastered piers. The road surface has been later covered with tarmacadam.
