Description

The Western Range at Erskine Home Farm is a complex of buildings featuring a main block, a west block, and a north block, with the main block dating back to 1851 and attributed to William Burn. The main block is designed in a Gothic style and is a single-storey structure with a loft, constructed from snecked rubble and adorned with ashlar dressings. The main north facade is approximately symmetrical, featuring an advanced gabled center and ends, with the center having a pend. The right-hand gable includes later alterations at the ground floor. There is a lower wing on the right side. The courts are open to the south, with the western arm of the west farm court showcasing a south jerkin-head gable that has a very wide depressed arch and buttresses flanking the courtyard. Attached to the west flank is a threshing mill building and engine-house, which includes a circular brick chimney. On the east side of the east court, there are farm cottages that feature three doors and three gablet bipartite dormers. The roofs are slated, sloping to the south and gabled to the north, with bracketed eaves and barge boards. The building has tall ashlar stacks, with lattice glazing and a few sashed windows.

The west block, dating from the mid-19th century, is a two-storey structure with an unusual design featuring six bays. The cartshed piers extend up to the first floor, which is timber framed and covered with modern cladding. It has a piended roof.

The north block, dated 1855, is a brick range of cattle sheds. It features three arches with a decorative double course of pantiles in the center and arched side windows.
