Description
Lintwhite School, built in 1901-02 by architect James Miller, is an Art Nouveau building featuring one storey plus an attic. The front is symmetrical with gabled end wings, constructed of red ashlar and topped with a green slate roof that has oversailing eaves and small-pane glazing. The gable ends are skewed, and there are cupola ventilators on the side wings. To the left, there is a 4-light stone mullioned window, while to the right, a 7-light splayed bay window is present.
The building has two-storey crenellated porches with ramped sides at the angles, and a distinctive sinuous bowed window treatment in the center, featuring lights arranged in a pattern of 2+5+5+2. The main roof has unique 4+4 attic windows, bracketed eaves, and a picturesque bell-cote. Tall, flanking tapered chimneys with cowled tops add to its character. Inside, the hall features an openwork tie-beam roof with arched braces. There are large extensions at the rear of the building.
