Description
The Smithy in Forteviot consists of two single-storey workshop buildings constructed between 1925 and 1926, designed by architect James Miller for the first Baron Forteviot of Duplin.
The Smithy features a harled exterior with a gabled roof, and the gables are partially tile hung. Its end wall includes a fixed window with 25 panes and a small double door leading to the attic. On the main elevation, there are three horizontally arranged windows with 21 panes each, along with a double door. The roof is tiled and has a slightly bell-cast central louvred ventilator with a zinc base and pyramidal cover.
The Carpenter's Workshop is similar in style to the Smithy but has a T-shaped plan. It includes longer windows, an additional window beyond the doorway inside, large roof lights, and a sliding double door in the gable.
