Description
Forgandenny Parish Church is a building that originally features a Romanesque style and has a rectangular plan measuring 70 feet 7 inches by 21 feet 7 inches internally. A fragment of double notch enrichment from an arched doorway is built into the south wall. The church has a porch that later served as the Oliphant burial vault and pew, and it is likely that transepts were added at a later date. The north transept was demolished, while the south transept was rebuilt as the Ruthven vault, which probably dates back to the 16th century and was recast in the 18th century with a Venetian feature and urns. A birdcage bellcote from the 17th or 18th century is also present.
In 1903, a large reconstruction was carried out by T.S. Robertson, during which the Oliphant aisle was removed, a new west porch was added, and alterations were made to the Ruthven aisle. New square-headed two-light windows and an east window were installed, and a pitch-pine roof was added. The east and west galleries were removed, and the pulpit was relocated from the north wall to the east, although it has been replaced recently.
