20 Marshall Place, Perth

21 Marshall Place in Perth is a Grade B listed building designed by Robert Reid between 1806 and 1833. It features a symmetrical, 31-bay terraced run that includes an advanced 3-storey, 5-bay section in the center, flanked by 2-storey, 10-bay attic and basement sections on either side, and advanced 3-storey, 3-bay outer pavilions at each end. The building is constructed of pale sandstone ashlar, with some areas painted, and has raised cills at the ground level, a continuous cill course at the first floor, and a moulded eaves cornice. Steps lead down to the main door entrances, which over-sail the basement.

The central section features recessed round-arched windows at the ground level, with radial fanlights above the doorways in the outer bays. The first floor has consoles beneath the windows, while the central bay has blind windows and a blocked central lunette on the second floor, with a stepped blocking detail above. The end pavilions have round-arched windows at the ground level and lunette windows on the second floor, with consoled windows on the first floor of the west pavilion only. Both pavilions are topped with pyramidal roofs that have ball and spike finials.

The building predominantly has 12-pane and plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows, with slated roofs that are pyramidal over the end pavilions. It features broad and tall co-axial ridge and end stacks, clay cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, some properties boast fine curving cantilevered staircases and partially oval-plan principal rooms with paired curved timber doors. There is a wide variety of plaster and marble chimneypieces, columned and consoled entrance halls, and other Classical detailing throughout the run.

The boundary walls consist of rubble with ashlar coping along Marshall Place, some sections featuring cast-iron railings.
