Description
Methven Castle is a Grade A listed building, attributed to John Mylne and dated 1664. It is a square, four-storey structure featuring circular ogee-roofed angle towers and is built from rubble. The north front has twin crow-stepped gables with a balustraded lead flat roof in between. The original front door has been replaced with an arched fanlight door piece, and the interior was remodeled in 1800, leaving only the central north scale and platt stair intact. An east two-storey wing was added, which includes a new main staircase made of pinned whinstone with cherry cocking. There is also a Tudor bay window on the east side and a north addition, likely constructed around 1815 by J. Gillespie Graham, while a south bay window was probably added around 1860. The west wing has been demolished.
