Description
Bendochy Parish Church is a simple rectangular church from the 17th century that has been extensively gothicised and features transepts. The church was designed by Alexander Johnston from Dundee in 1885. Original bowtell-mouldings can still be seen at the edges of the old openings. The church houses Burgerhuy bells from the 16th or 17th century. Inside, the pulpit lacks a sounding board and is decorated with arabesque panels. A sacrament house was discovered in 1885 and has been reinstated, although it was significantly damaged.
The church contains several notable monuments, including a relief effigy of John Cummin of Coultie from 1606, depicted in medieval armour with his feet resting on a dog, now mounted on the wall. There is also a small square gothic panel dedicated to Matilda, dating from around 1450, a wall panel for Leonard Leslie from 1605, and floor slabs for Nicol Campbell of Keithock and David Campbell of Denhead, which are now set up in the wall.
