Description

Old Fincastle House is a 2-storey building dating from approximately 1640, with significant alterations in the 18th century. The main part of the house is constructed of rubble and presents a roughly symmetrical frontage, with six windows and a doorway on the ground floor, and five windows above. A window lintel bearing an inscription dates from 1640. The doorway is dated 1702. The interior is of good quality, particularly the panelled drawing room with a central ceiling piece likely by Clayton. A single-storey and attic wing is attached to the southwest. Marriage lintels from 1751 and 1754 have been remodelled, probably in 1807, as evidenced by the date above the door.
