Description
74 South College Street in Elgin is a two-storey terrace of houses designed by Charles C Doig between 1938 and 1945. The terrace consists of four two-bay dwellings in each block, constructed with rubble and featuring simulated tooled ashlar dressings. The design includes slightly advanced paired gabled bays, which are flanked by paired entrances. The first-floor windows in the outer bays break the wallhead under a swept dormer. The buildings have coped ridges and end stacks, topped with slate roofs.
The original glazing pattern consists of 6- or 16-pane sash windows, and the original doors feature three lower panels with 6-pane glazing in the upper light. As of 1988, some houses, specifically numbers 64, 66, 76, and 90, have modern glazing and doors. The terrace is fronted by a low coped rubble wall that separates the housing from the main road.
