Description
Kinloss Manse is a two-storey house built in 1820 by J Gillespie Graham, with later additions in 1877 by A and W Reid and subsequent alterations. The original part of the house faces south and has a regular three-bay design. A substantial two-storey rear wing now accommodates three separate dwellings.
The front of the house is harled with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. The centre bay is slightly forward and features a pediment. It includes a round-headed entrance with a radial fanlight, a recessed square-headed doorway, and a panelled door. The east and west gables each have a regular two-window arrangement on both the ground and first floors. An ashlar base course runs along the front, and a deep moulded eaves cornice is present. Modern four-pane glazing has been installed.
The rear wing has an irregular fenestration with two entrances, and mostly features four-pane glazing. The rear has a corniced wallhead and rear ridge stacks, topped by piended slate roofs.
Records, including drawings by Peter Fulton, architect of Forres, dating from 1903, are held in the Moray District Record Office and the Scottish Record Office. The New Statistical Account of 1842 also references the property.
