Description
Fordel Dean Bridge is a farmhouse dating from around 1830, featuring two storeys and three bays, with a later wing set back to the northwest. The structure is built from tooled sandstone rubble, with raised ashlar surrounds around the openings and raised long and short ashlar quoins at all corners except for the northwest wing.
On the northeast front elevation, there is a central panelled door with an 8-pane fanlight, flanked by windows. Above the door, there is a window centered on the first floor, with additional flanking windows. To the left is an advanced gabled bay, while to the right is a two-storey, two-bay piended later wing that is set back.
The southeast elevation features two ground floor windows, with a smaller window to the left that has a timbered lower half. The first floor is obscured by vegetation.
On the southwest rear elevation, there is a small single-storey addition to the right gable with a window, and an off-centre window on the first floor. To the left, there is a projecting gabled bay that houses the staircase, with a central stair window. A larger projecting gabled bay to the left shows raggles of an earlier addition, with a first-floor window and a large horizontal ground floor window on the right return. There is also a single-storey addition with a catslide roof and window, along with a door in the left return. The northwest wing has a first-floor window and a large ground floor window.
The northwest elevation features a plain gable. The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case. The roof is gabled and covered with grey slate, featuring raised skews and a lead ridge. The northwest piended wing has a purple slate roof and a rooflight in its elevation. There are two corniced ridge stacks with bases on the principal elevation, and rough harled stacks at the ridge and apex of the northwest wing. Cast-iron rainwater goods are present.
Inside, original period features have been removed, leaving only 1950s replacement fireplaces.
Adjoining the northwest wing is a walled garden, enclosed by sandstone rubble walls with some brick infill to the north. The walls have rounded coping stones, and there are plain timber doors and simple stone sheds at the southern corner. The northwest wall serves as the rear wall for a farm building.
