Description

15-21 Queensgate in Inverness is a building designed by W L Carruthers between 1900 and 1901, showcasing English free style architecture with an ashlar finish. The structure has three storeys, an attic, and a garret, featuring a 15-bay front facing Queensgate. The ground floor includes shopfronts and entrances to the upper floors, which are adorned with pilastered, keyblocked, and pedimented doorpieces. The entrance to the Queensgate Hotel is particularly notable, featuring a pilastered design with a consoled cornice.

The first-floor windows are both architraved and corniced, while the second-floor windows are simply architraved. The building also has pedimented dormers with half-timbering, along with three shaped and two pedimented gablets that have hexagonal garret openings flanked by stumpy columns. The corner of the building at Church Street is canted and rises four storeys, with the Church Street front comprising three bays that feature round-arched windows at the ground floor. The overall design is topped with a mansard roof and a bracketted cornice.
