Description

1-7 Queensgate in Inverness is a building designed by Ross & Macbeth in 1895, showcasing a French Renaissance style with coursed masonry. It stands three storeys tall with an attic. The front facing Queensgate features a ten-bay layout with pilastraded shop fronts on the ground floor. On the first floor, the second and seventh windows are recessed bows adorned with carved friezes and scroll-pedimented tablets, which are flanked by urns. The other windows on this level have hoodmoulds.

At the corner with Academy Street, the ground floor is canted, leading to a corbelled bowed oriel on the first and second floors, topped with a gable at the attic. The Academy Street front consists of four bays, also with pilastraded shop fronts at the ground level. The central windows on the first floor feature a sculpted frieze, and there is a central scrolled pediment flanked by urns. The building is topped with a slated mansard roof.
