Description
59, 60, 61 St Vincent Crescent in Glasgow is a classical tenement building designed by Alexander Kirkland, constructed from 1850 onwards. It is three stories high, with some basements, and features a long range consisting of 11 bays on the eastern side and a 12-bay central section that is raised. The building is finished in polished ashlar stone, with a channelled ground floor.
The entrances include alternate close and main doors, with pilastered entries, except for two close entries located together at Nos 50 and 51. Most of the recessed doors are accompanied by fanlights and sidelights. The building has Doric square pillared porticos with responds at Nos 31, 32, 33, 49, and 52, while Nos 50 and 51 have coupled porticos. A cornice at the ground floor forms a cill band for the first floor.
All windows are sash and case within architraves, predominantly featuring 12-pane glazing. The first-floor windows in the raised eastern section are shoulder architraved, corniced, and pedimented, specifically in the 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 10th bays of the central section. The windows also have aprons and moulded cills. The building is topped with an eaves frieze and cornice, and the die parapet is balustraded in the lower sections.
On the elevation facing Corunna Street, there are 9 bays, with a pilastered entry at No 30 Corunna Street. The first-floor windows match those on the main elevation. A corniced wallhead stack breaks through the parapet, supported by piers. Additionally, there is a coped boundary wall that runs to the lane at the rear.
