Description

61 Oakfield Avenue is a classical terrace of seven townhouses built around 1868. This three-storey building, with an attic and basement, features 21 bays arranged in a 6-9-6 pattern and has advanced terminal pavilions. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar stone, with the ground floor channelled. A continuous band-course runs above the ground floor and at the eaves, with string courses at the cills of the first and second floors.

The entrance features steps that oversail the basements, leading to recessed doorpieces. All upper windows are framed with architraves, while those on the first floor are enhanced with consoles and cornices, adorned with a frieze of disc moulding. The flanks and rear elevation are finished in droved ashlar, with continuous band courses between the floors. Notably, the stonework of number 69 has been much repaired.

The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, and the roofs are covered with grey slate, featuring mutual stacks and some octagonal cans.

Inside, as seen in 1988, there are plaster cornices and ceiling roses, along with cast-iron balusters on the stairs.

The property is complemented by square ashlar gatepiers, a low coped ashlar boundary wall, and elongated spearheaded cast iron railings leading to the steps.
