Description

42 Kingsborough Gardens in Glasgow is a terrace of seven houses, built around 1900, with two-storey and basement structures. The houses are made of polished red ashlar.

The entrance features steps that extend over the basement, leading to recessed double-leaf panelled doors topped with an astragalled glazed fanlight. Large consoles support a hood above the door, which is flanked by glazed sidelights. At numbers 50 and 52, there is a single-storey, four-light bow window with mullions and transoms, topped with a semi-circular slated roof that has brattishing and widely overhanging timber modillion eaves.

The first floor has recessed single-light windows, with the lower sashes featuring a six-pane glazing pattern in plate glass, while the upper sashes are often leaded glass. There are cill strings at the first floor and a band course at the eaves. The deeply overhanging eaves are supported by timber modillions. The houses have skews at the party walls and axial stacks, with slate roofs that include tile cresting. Number 54 features a two-storey four-light bow window on the right that rises to a conical roof.

The flank facing Kingsborough Lane East is made of stugged ashlar and has an irregular design with two small lights that have moulded lintels and cills. There is also a four-light canted oriel window on the first floor supported by timber brackets. The rear of the houses is also stugged ashlar, with many featuring canted oriels at the first floor, while the rest mainly have bipartite sashes.

A low coped ashlar garden and retaining wall supports steps leading up to square ashlar gate piers, which are linked by cast-iron railings.
